Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
Respected Mufti Saheb, Assalamualaikum,
We have more than 10 Copies of Quran at our residence. But we normally use 3 to 4 copies to read them. The rest of them are just kept at our home. My question is, whether any `Kaffara` is there for not using the other copies of Quran. Please enlighten me on the subject. Jazakallu Qair.

Kaffarah for keeping quran
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Dear and beloved brother in Islam, there is absolutely no restriction or stipulation in Shariah which restricts the believers from keeping any number of copies of the Glorious Quran in their homes.
If one chooses to keep ten copies or a hundred copies of the Glorious Quran, there is absolutely no harm and no sin; and thus no ‘kaffarah’ or atonement is necessary.
If one has more copies than they normally use, it would be prudent to present an extra copy to a person who might not have one, or might not be able to afford one…or alternatively one may even give or place the extra copies in their local mosque where the believers who come to offer their prayers may recite them.
Keeping extra copies of the Quran than one uses in the house is definitely not considered a sin, thus there is absolutely no question of giving a ‘kaffarah’ or atonement for it.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
Your brother and well wisher in Islam,
