Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
I am a converted women living with my daugther and son. My daughter is 17 years old and not muslim. She took home a male friend that lives 80 miles from us. I told her that he can sleep in my sons room and that there will not be anything happening between her and him. Now I want to know if I have done a sin and if my daugther have gone behind my back, is I to blame?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 164:
164 …. Every soul draws the meed of its acts on none but itself: no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another. Your goal in the end is toward Allah: He will tell you the truth of the things wherein ye disputed.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 53 Surah Najm verse 39:
39 That man can have nothing but what he (himself) strives for.
Respected sister in Islam, although it is never too late to strive to instill the fear of the Lord Creator into someone….the truth is sister, the time to guide one’s off-spring to fear Allah and obey His Commands is not when they are seventeen years old and adults, but rather when they are infants and under the total dependence of their parents!
If you have done the best you could do as a mother to instill the fear of Allah into your daughter, and she grew to be an adult and chose to deny the Signs of her Lord Creator and disobey and reject His Guidance and His Commands….rest assured that you will be absolutely blameless for the deeds done by your daughter in the Court of the Lord All-Knowing, All-Just.
Allah Says in the Glorious Quran Chapter 17 Surah Israa verse 15:
15 Who receives guidance receives it for his own benefit: whoever (chooses to) go astray does so to his own loss: no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another:
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
Your brother and well wisher in Islam,
